My inner artist finds a new passion

This year brought a new passion. I started creating a new type of art this year – fused glass – a process of combining different types of glass and other materials and firing it in a kiln. This art form is quite old. While the precise origins of glass fusing techniques are not known with certainty, there is archeological evidence that the Egyptians were familiar with techniques ca. 2000 BCE. Continue reading

Helping students grow

“Social innovation starts with you.” That’s what I and a handful of other volunteers remind high school students participating in the LearnServe Fellows Program. Every Thursday during the academic year, I use the community service hours given to me by DAI Solutions to help high school students from across the Washington, DC, metro area design and launch their own social “ventures” – action projects that will benefit their schools and communities.
